Happy Centennial, Romania! La multi 100 ani, Romania!

To celebrate the Centennial since the final unification of the Romanian provinces in 1918, and to celebrate Romania's National Day, during the last week in November, my students and I discussed about the meaning of the celebration and my students from grades 2A, 4E, 5C made some drawings using the map of Romania as a base for coloring our national flag. My students appreciated the activity. Here are some photos from the activities:

Pentru a sarbatori Centenarul Unirii, elevii mei din clasele 2A, 4E si 5C au colorat harta Romaniei in culorile steagului si au decorat desenele cum au stiut ei mai frumos. Am discutat despre semnificatia acestei sarbatori. Iata cateva fotografii de la activitati:

Romanian customs: November 30 – St. Andrew's Day – 30 Noiembrie – Sf. Andrei

30 Noiembrie - Sf. Andrei

Sf. Andrei este patronul spiritual al României. El este cel care a adus crestinismul in 
fosta regiune a Scitiei, unde trăiau Geto-dacii, in regiunea dintre Dunăre si Marea Neagra, 
unde se afla in present Româna.
In afara de semnificatia religioasa a acestei zile, in folclorul romanesc este cunoscuta ca 
data cand multe legende devin realitate.
Una din ele spune ca in aceasta zi Sf. Andrei isi imparte mancarea de iarna cu lupii. 
Se spune ca in aceasta zi lupii isi pot intoarce capul sa vada in spate. Este o zi cand 
oamenii nu lucreaza in godpodarie de team aca lupii sa nu le atace casa si familia.
Noaptea de Sf. Andrei este o foarte importanta pentru vraji. Se spune ca in aceasta noapte fetele nemaritate pot vedea fata viitorului sot. In aceasta seara fetele fac niste turte din faina, sare si apa proaspata. Apa neinceputa trebuie sa fie adusa de la fantana cu o cana curate,
 iar faina si sarea trebuie sa fie luate din pachet neinceput, care au fost incepute doar cu aceasta ocazie. Apoi, turta e coapta in cuptor si e mancata de fata nemaritata inainte de culcare, fara sa bea apa. Se spune ca in aceasta noapte va visa pe cel care ii aduce apa, 
si ca acela ii va fi sot.
Ei bine, va pot spune ca am incercat si eu asta odata, cu cativa ani inainte de a ma casatori.
Dar in noaptea aceea am visat ca m-am certat cu tatal si fratele meu pentru ca nu-mi dadeau apa sa beau. Asta a insemnat ca in acel an nu imi era menit sa ma casatoresc. Dar m-am maritat cativa ani mai tarziu. Deci povestea poate totusi fi adevarata.

November 30 - St. Andrew Day

Sf. Andrei (St. Andrew) is the patron saint of Romania. He is the one who introduced 
Christianity in the former region of Scythia, where the Geto-Dacians lived, in the region
 between the Danube and the Black Sea, which is nowadays part of Romania.
Besides the religious meaning of this day, it is also known in the Romanian folklore as the 
day when many legends come to reality.
One of them says that on this day St. Andrew shares the food for winter with the wolves.
On this day it is said that wolves can turn their heads to see behind them. It is a day when people don't work in their homesteads for fear that wolves may attack them or their cattle. 
If the master of the house does not work on this day, wolves cannot approach to attack his homestead and family.
St. Andrew's night is also a very important night for witchcraft. It is said that on this night unmarried young women can see the face of their future husband.
On this evening, the girls make a small cake made of flour, salt and fresh water. The water 
has to be brought from the water well in a clean cup and nobody should use that water before being used for that cake, and the flour and salt have to be taken from a fresh packet opened
for this occasion. The cake is baked in the oven and the girl eats it before going to bed, without drinking any water. It is said that the image of her future husband will come in her dream to 
bring her water to drink.
Well, I can tell you I tried it once, a few years before I got married. But during the night I dreamed that I was quarreling with my dad and my brother because they did not want to give me some water to drink. It meant that I was not meant to marry the following year. But I got married a few years later. So all this may be true.

Project description


Project description
We want to research our traditions and use the information to develop and promote our students' creativity. Their works will be showcased in articles on our blog and on the eTwinning platform, as well as on Facebook. Our students and teachers will improve their communication, English and ICT skills. We will share the results of our research and the students' works with teachers and students from other countries outside the EU, such as countries from Africa and Asia.
Aims:
Our students will learn how to research traditions and valorize them through their own art creations.
They will improve their artistic, communication, English and ICT skills as well as their self-esteem.
They will learn how to share emotions, experiences through artistic communication.
The parents will support their children's artistic expression by providing moral and material support.
Teachers will exchange best practices with their peers.
We will share the results of our research, as well as our students' creations with teachers  and students from non-EU countries from Africa & Asia.
Work process
Teachers will coordinate their students' research for traditions.
They will communicate with their peers in the Facebook group and disseminate the activities on the project blog, Twin Space, Facebook group.
The Romanian team will make the project blog and all partners will post their articles and photos on the blog, Twin Space and Facebook.
We will invite teachers from institutions from countries in Africa and Asia to join our project and share our traditions with them.
The Romanian team will offer participation diplomas to the students and teachers involved.
The diplomas will be sent online.
The students' exhibits will be showcased on the project blog, so everyone can admire them. Each team will decide what types of traditions they share with their peers.
Expected results
Our students will improve their self-esteem, creativity and art expression, communication and ICT skills.
Teachers will exchange best practices. We will share the results of our research and showcase our students' creations on the project blog, Twin Space and Facebook.
The Romanian team will make the project blog and Facebook group and all partners will post articles & photo albums there. These will be our dissemination and evaluation tools. We will invite teachers and students from countries outside EU (Africa, Asia) to join our project and share their traditions with us.
Parents will be involved by offering moral and material support to their children, so they can express their creativity.
Target group: students aged 6-14

Photo albums and articles published on the blog and other media
Diplomas for students and teachers
Facebook group for teachers
The EVALUATION of the project will be based on the articles and photos from activities published on the project blog.
The dissemination of the project will be made on the project blog, Twin Space, Facebook group, partner schools’ websites.

4.Grup ţintă/beneficiari: elevi de 6-14 ani din scolile partenere
5.Scop, obiective
Descrierea proiectului:
Dorim sa cercetam traditiile si sa folosim informatiile pentru a dezvolta si promova 
creativitatea elevilor nostri. Lucrarile lor vor fi expuse in articole pe blogul proiectului,
platforma eTwinning si pe Facebook. Elevii si profesorii isi vor imbunatati deprinderile de comunicare in engleza si TIC. Vom impartasi rezultatele cercetarii noastre si lucrarile elevilor 
cu profesori si elevi din tari din afara UE, din Africa si Asia.
Obiective:
Elevii isi vor imbunatati deprinderile de comunicare artistica, in engleza si TIC.
Vor invata sa cerceteze si sa valorizeze traditiile prin creatiile lor personale. Ei vor invata sa 
isi impartaseasca emotiile si experientele prin creatii artistice.
Ei isi vor imbunatati stima de sine prin impartasirea experientelor lor cu colegii lor, cu profesorii lor si cu familiile lor.Ei vor manifesta atitudini pozitive faţă de sine, faţă de ceilalţi.
Parintii elevilor implicati in proiect vor incuraja iniţiativele, implicarea copiilor şi cadrului didactic
în parteneriat prin atitudine pozitivă; se vor implica în asigurarea materialelor necesare realizarii creatiilor elevilor.
Profesorii implicati in proiect isi vor imbunatati deprinderile TIC si de comunicare in engleza si vor face schimburi de bune practici in predare.Ei vor impartasi rezultatele cercetarii cu profesori si elevi din tari din Africa si Asia.
6.Resurse (umane, materiale, financiare, de timp);
Resurse umane: din scolile partenere: profesorii, elevii si parintii lor.
Resurse materiale: portofolii, fişe, aparat foto, calculator, videoproiector; fotografii, cărți
și reviste, etc.
 Activitatile vor fi realizate in salile de clasa, in cabinetul de informatica, deoarece va fi necesara utilizarea calculatoarelor si a internetului, si in diverse alte locatii.
Resurse de timp: activitatile vor avea loc in diverse locatii, pe perioada anului scolar 2018-2019
7.Activităţi (denumire, loc, perioada, responsabili, rezultate aşteptate)
 Procedura de muncă:
Profesorii vor coordona munca de cercetare a elevilor pentru a descoperi traditiile.
Ei vor comunica cu profesorii din scolile partenere in grupul de pe Facebook si vor disemina activitatile pe blogul proiectului, Twin Space si Facebook.
Vom invita profesori din institutii din Africa si Asia s ani se alature la proiect si sa impartaseasca si ei din traditiile lor.
Echipa din Romania va realiza blogul proiectului si tori partenerii vor posta articole si fotografii acolo.
Echipa din Romania va trimite online diplome elevilor si profesorilor implicati in proiect.
Creatiile elevilor vor fi expuse pe blogul proiectului, in asa fel incat sa poata fi admirate de toata lumea.
Fiecare echipa va decide ce tipuri de traditii vor impartasi cu ceilalti.
Comunicarea intre profesori se va face in limba engleza, prin intermediul Twin Space, blog si grupul de pe Facebook.
Rezultate aşteptate:
Elevii isi vor creativitatea, imbunatati stima de sine, abilitatile de comunicare si
exprimare artistica si cele de TIC.
Profesorii vor face schimburi de bune practice.
Vom impartasi rezultatele cercetarii noastre si vom expune creatiile elevilor nostri pe
blogul proiectului, Twin space si Facebook.
Echipa din Romania va realiza blogul si grupul pe Facebook si toti partenerii vor posta articole
si albume foto acolo. Acestea vor fi instrumentele noastre de diseminare si evaluare.
Vom invita elevi si profesori din institutii din Africa si Asia s ani se alature la proiect si 
sa impartaseasca traditiile lor cu noi.
Parintii isi vor sustine copiii in activitatea creatoare, motivandu-i sa se dezvolte artistic si emotional.Si ii vor sustine si material pentru a-si realiza creatiile.
Toti participantii isi vor imbunatati abilitatile TIC si de comunicare in engleza.
Principala limba de comunicare in proiect este engleza, dar partenerii pot sa traduca articolele
si in limbile lor materne.

8.Evaluarea activitatilor se va face pe baza materialelor realizate de elevi pana la sfarsitul anului scolar, pe baza fotografiilor realizate la activitati si cu ajutorul blogului proiectului, care este si un jurnal de activitati
9.Mediatizarea si diseminarea se va face pe pagina proiectului de pe platforma eTwinning, pe blog, pe Facebook si pe website-urile scolilor partenere.
